Got another one. (Little Foot)

Post  Trish on Thu Nov 20, 2008 9:16 am

Had a call at 1.30pm to go collect a small hedgehog from a friends garden.

I know no more at the moment than he/she weighs 225g. Hopefully will be able to see more of him/her later when I plan to give a good check over, but for now is settling.

He/she refuses to uncurl more than a smidge, have given clean bedding and put a bowl of food and one of water in. I can't do anymore at the moment, was hoping to get a dose of Panacur in but not a chance at the moment. I am hoping it eats tonight and gains some strength - it seems tired, not sure how else to explain!!

The possibilty of stress is main reason I am leaving alone for now, time to get used to being here.

I have put a dish of Interntional Rehydrating Fluid in so hopefully it will drink and that will do it good.

Fingers crossed for sure. luck

It has had a tiny bit of food and tipped the water over, so the water is now in a jar lid.

Knowing my luck this one will be as fussy as Edie and only like food I DON'T give! Rolling Eyes

I hope this one is going to do ok. Sounds alot like Edie to me.
Mine were very fussy too, always wanting the opposite to what I give them Rolling Eyes That's Hedgehogs all over. The best thing is to try out as much food as possible, so you can find what food they love. I did and mine liked this Tesco kitty Kat thing. Nice stuff.
For now, and maybe for the best, I have no Hedgehogs in my care. I'm a very busy person now. But still feed them and keep a close eye out.
Good luck with her,

Bethany.

I can tell you this is another girl!! Grin No name yet, giving it thought. confused

She is more 'with it' today, so have been able to see 4 legs and feet, clear eyes and nose, and one small ick right by her right eye - being so close I am loath to touch it but they she is I won't be able to anyway!!
Poo looks fine but have put Panacur on her food - no chance of getting it in her mouth via a syringe!Rolling Eyes

She had a tiny amount of cat food overnight and through today so have put puppy food in to see if she likes that. Smile

My 2 sons have called her Little Foot - it goes well with the name of the newest one (Ducky) as both characters from Land Before TIme, and she is the smallest one here.

She is very placid, such a sweetie.

What a great name for her! Little foot was one of my favourites from the land before time. I also like the one clalled 'Petrie' the little bat thing. That one was funny.

We all like that film, so it seems apt there 2 names from it!

She is much more alert now, she has a small tick very close to her right eye which I have absolutely no chance of getting near. This is the first hedgehog I have been unable to give anything to orally by syringe! She curls so tight even if my hand is in the way! I managed to get a tiny bit of Panacur in, but will have to put it on her food as I did last night. Rolling Eyes

Took a photo which I will post in the photo section. Thumbs Up

Little Foot still refuses to let me give her Panacur orally, so it went on her food. She is eating and drinking, seems a secretive sort of girl!

Little Foot hardly eats, her water does go down though which is something at least.

I have today moved her into a new box, with heat pad. She is now laying stretched out on it - this is one that could either way. I am hoping the direct warmth with help, just hoping she isn't yet another of the small ones simply destined not to make it. Unsure

For the first time she took Panacur from syringe this evening, I have had to put it on her food up until now and as she has eaten little I doubt she has had any. Now she is looking more lively - has tried to get UNDER the heat pad and move it around, and has at least walked through her food which is progress!!! Rolling Eyes

Little Foot isn't looking good. Sad No

I have syringed a mix of weetabix, goats milk and vits into her, she took it well but made it clear when she had had enough.

You know when you just know? I think I know. Sad
